- Improve your listening skills. Take the time to listen to your child every day
- Show an increase of love, especially after you have disciplined your child
- Look for and encourage their strengths, interests, and abilities. Help them to use these as compensations for any limitations or disabilities
- Reward your children with words of praise and smiles
- Take some time before you give an answer. Be realistic in your expectations and demands
- Get organized and involve your child in establishing, schedules, structure and rules
- Demonstrate how to correct mistakes by showing or demonstrating what to do
- Teach responsibility by giving your child chores to do everyday – follow through to make certain that they do them
- Read together! Improve comprehension by asking questions and then reread the story again
- Improve concentration by reducing all environmental distractions. Provide dedicated spaces to work, study and play
- Take your child to libraries often – if possible, weekly
- Make certain that there are always get books and reading materials around the house
- Children develop inner self-worth by learning to compete with self rather than with others
- Provide your child with a chance to serve others at home and in the community
- Make certain that your child has every opportunity to love reading - give them the tools they need
